SOPHIE: A Dark Angel
A poignant film tribute to a girl murdered for the way she looked
Huthwaite International is proud to have lent its behavioural change expertise to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation's mission to educate against intolerance.
Two years ago Sophie, a young Goth woman with a bright future, was viciously beaten to death in Lancashire – simply because of the way she dressed. The 26 November 2009 would have been her 23rd birthday and it sees the release of a haunting and thought-provoking short film depicting the unprovoked attack that ended her life.
The film uses stunning animation and an atmospheric soundtrack to illustrate the shocking nature of events. Our work has been, through education, to avoid those events being repeated – a key aim that Sophie's mother Sylvia set up the Foundation to meet.
Working with Sylvia, a small project group in Huthwaite has devised and developed a game, SOPHIE, that will encourage tolerance in the upcoming generation at a key stage in their development. The Sophie Lancaster Foundation will distribute the SOPHIE game to teachers for use in the classroom as part of the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) curriculum.
We would encourage you to watch the film by logging on here. Please send the link on to as many friends and colleagues as you can. By doing so you will be spreading the message symbolised by SOPHIE's initials – Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere.
You can help promote the national distribution of the SOPHIE game. The Foundation relies on charitable donations to fund its work and you can support that by donating here.
