Telecoms - Excellent project management

One of the most neglected areas in implementing training projects seems to be the management of the project itself.

Training, with the potential to produce excellent results, can be undermined and expensive investment wasted by a failure to address some of the basic issues, can act as a barrier to success.

At Huthwaite we believe that what happens before the training intervention begins, and what happens once the classroom event is over, is just as important as the training itself. Some of the key issues to address include:

  • Is there a jointly agreed implementation plan?
  • Is there an agreed review process for implementing the plan and agreeing remedial action where necessary?
  • Are all the people involved in the implementation clear about their roles and responsibilities?
  • Is there an internal sponsor for the initiative with the authority to ensure that people honour the commitments made?
  • Who will communicate details of the initiative to the people involved?
  • Is there a need to 'sell-in' the proposed intervention to other parts of the organisation or other countries involved?
  • Is there a need to modify aspects of the initiative to take into account different cultures or local circumstances?
  • Is there agreement about how the success of the project will be measured and communicated?
  • Who is responsible for ensuring all the people who should participate in the initiative do so?
  • What actions will be taken if people don't meet their obligations?

These are some of the issues which need to be addressed to ensure success.

Huthwaite has been successfully managing global training initiatives for over 30 years; our people have the skills and experience to manage even the largest most complex projects.
